Candy Rapper- Nicki Minaj
by: az-ra

Loved by everyone, Nicki Minaj is the MC shaking up hip-hop and painting it pink! We can't get enough.

*IN THE PINK*
Minaj's attitude to the music industry is way more comparable to Lady Gaga than normal Hip Hop. Her balance of humor, costume and music traces a lineage that goes back to George Clinton and Elton John. Two years ago, on the brink of breakthrough, she purposefully kicked out her more traditional hip hop image and slid into a world of girly trinkets, wigs and pink-pink-pink! The transformation threw some of her original fans off; YouTube is littered with criticism about when she stuck on the crazy glasses, stacks and wig for an appearance on a USTV show "106&Park". But it was a well-orchestrated move; her music was opening doors and earning her guest spots on all the right records and her change of style got Minaj noticed beyond the realms of hip hop and propelled her into the mainstream. "I'm an entertainer- I like to make people laugh," she said last year. "Some will hate it and some will love it, but all will remember." No rap star has ever managed to straddle this divide as successfully as Minaj. Not even Eminem, with whom she did a duet with called "Roman's Revenge". Minaj has opened up the masculine world of hip hop to teenage girls, and boy, do they love her!" Nicki is the best", says -18- year old Claire outside the landmark hotel. "She's inspirational, beautiful- she gets it," adds Superhot_Barbz, also 18. So far, Minaj has got it right every time. Despite her rapid accent, the star collaborations, magazine covers and TV appearances, face-to-face Minaj is refreshingly positive, down to earth and comfortable with her current superstardom.
