Did you know that your primary role with your daughter is parenting, not friendship?
When a parent talks about being more of a "friend" than a parent to their child, red flags go up. Parenting means setting boundaries and limits that allow a child to stay safe and to understand how to make their own healthy decisions someday. Being your daughter´s "friend" means that you have abandoned the authority you need to effectively reinforce the rules of healthy behaviors. While it may feel good to avoid the struggles that come with setting limits, you are missing critical opportunities to help your daughter build essential life skills like following rules, or coping with frustration or disappointment lack of these skills lead to difficulties at school, work, and in social situations, resulting in poor selfesteem. Setting limits now will help your daughter develop the skills she needs to become a strong, healthy and happy woman.
