Did you know that solving your daughter´s problems could hurt her?
Our daughters need to practice effective problem-solving and coping skills with increasing amounts of independence. If we give children all of the answers or rescue them from the consequences of their own choices, we rob them of the opportunity to learn how to solve problems and to cope with challenging situations. By providing only guidance for their thinking and coping (ex: asking questions they might need to consider in solving problems, asking how they think they might deal with problems or negative consequences) while letting them come up with the answers, we help our daughters develop the thinking skills they will need when we are not at their side.
