Protecting The Skin Against Damage In Winter

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Low temperatures and decreased humidity during winter make the skin all the more dry and irritated with itching and patches of dryness. Cold winter days can cause the skin on your face, hands and feet to become uncomfortably dry. In some people, the skin might also start to develop flakes and cracks. Such changes in the skin can be related to eczema, a serious skin disorder. Thus, our skin needs to be carefully protected against damage in winter. One needs to understand the changing needs of the skin, with the lowering temperature. Accordingly a skin care regime suitable for one’s skin can be adopted to protect the skin against drying during the cold months of the year.

Products with oil extracts as base ingredients can be best replaced with those containing glycerine, sorbitol or alpha-hydroxy acids for use in winter. Before selecting any product, you must also make sure that it will not result in clogging your pores. Therefore, it is recommended that you test each product on your skin.

What to make for dinner?

Can’t decide what to make for dinner?

This is a common problem that I hear from housewives, working men and women and bachelors:

“What am I going to make for dinner??!!”

I know I have a house full of groceries and all the cookware you would ever need, but I still ask myself that question daily. After a long day at work, I usually walk to my refrigerator, open it up, and look at all these groceries that I just bought from the grocery store. I have a handful of recipes that I can make off the top of my head, but there is one problem with that…I’m tired of eating the same five things every week. There are only so many tacos and spaghetti I can eat in a month. I close the refrigerator and walk to my pantry. Same thing, tons of groceries, but the same five recipes run through my head.

The Power of Moms

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

I find myself constantly amazed and yes, even frustrated, by the degree to which we, as moms, are unaware of the power we hold.  It is as if the wise old adage, ‘The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world,’ has been wiped out of our consciousness or at the very least, is buried under layers of societal messages about what’s wrong with women.

(These women who have the financial ability to have the single job of being a mom is becoming increasingly rare). How have we collectively lost sight of the power attached to the ability to grow life in our bodies, feed that life from our breasts and the seemingly endless capacity to nurture and guide that life as s/he grows in the world (and by the way, this last part applies whether we actually birthed that child or not)?
