MAKE A DIFFERENCE: LOCKS OF LOVE
Thinking about cutting off your hair and going for a shorter, easier to deal with do? Well, instead of letting that hair be swept up in the dustbin and thrown in the garbage, donate it to Locks of Love! Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides wigs and hairpieces to those who have medical hair loss. After kids permanently lose their hair, many don't feel good about the way they look and don't want to face their peers. What Locks of Love does is help these children under 18 feel more confident and comfortable with their appearance and help them raise their self-esteem.
There are also guidelines that need to be followed, but anyone can cut your hair as long as they use the proper procedure. There are many salons that are registered for Locks of Love so if you log onto www.locksoflove.org you can get all the information you need.
Locks of Love is a great way to give back to other kids who aren't as fortunate to have strong and healthy growing hair. It's painless, easy, and you feel so awesome about yourself afterwards!
"I GAVE HAIR BECAUSE I CARE"
12-year-old Riley from Pennsylvania shares her Locks of Love experience with us...
When I was reading a magazine I saw an article for locks of love. I had always thought of donating my hair but I read the inspirational story and thought "I want to be that girl." Soon after I was at the mall with my mom getting a present for my friend's upcoming birthday. I saw a hair place and asked my mom to look. I went up and said "Do you donate hair?" The lady said "We cut but you have to donate." I got in the chair and she brought out a rubber band. She brought over the scissors and I closed my eyes. Soon I felt the rubber band pull and release and 10˝ inches of my hair was now in the stylist's hand! I almost cried, but I soon realized I would be changing some girls or maybe even boy's life!!!
