Musical Masterpieces
April 22, 2008
There were really only a couple of issues with tonight's performances. Broadway songs are performed as part of a show, each of them tells a story and fits in to a larger overarching storyline. So I was INCREDIBLY disappointed that some of the people didn't bother to research the songs they were singing. How hard is is to watch a 2 hour movie representation of the musical to get a feel for the story? Or even read up on the musical's plot by searching the internet.
All that aside, I was really impressed with Syesha Mercado's performance. I finally felt like I got to know her and she was shining bright last night. I also really liked Carly Smithson's performance! And, of course, David Cook sealed the deal for me, he's the most authentic performer they have and I think he should win the whole thing!
If I had to pick a bottom three, based solely on tonight's performances, I'd say that it should be: Brooke White, Jason Castro and David Archuleta. I think we might see the end of Brooke White tomorrow. She's had two rough weeks and I just didn't feel like I got any emotion out of her.
If you need a performance recap, here's who sang what:
Syesha Mercado -- 'One Rock 'n' Roll Too Many'
Jason Castro -- 'Memory'
Brooke White -- 'You Must Love Me'
David Archuleta -- 'Think of Me'
Carly Smithson -- 'Jesus Christ Superstar'
David Cook -- 'Music of the Nighht'
All songs are from the Andrew Llyod Webber Songbook.
