WICKED

The smash-hit musical Wicked tells the backstory story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz and clues us in to the motives of the wicked witch of the west whose name, we learn, is Elphaba.
Turns out that because she was born green, Elphaba had always been shunned by society and, as a result, had become extremely antisocial. When she begins her schooling at Shiz University she immediately becomes enemies with her roommate Glinda (as in the pretty good witch from the movie) though, eventually, their mutual loathing morphs into a fine friendship, and they form an unbreakable bond that makes them an unstoppable team.
Unfortunately for the gal pals, the Wizard of Oz has orchestrated special plans for them, and Elphaba is forced to choose between a road of popularity and evil or segregation and righteousness.
I have seen this Tony award-winning musical three times since it opened on Broadway in 2003, and each time I've been enthralled in its story and deeply touched by its message. If you're a fan of The Wizard of Oz, or are just looking for a fun family musical to see, Wicked is a must. Now playing at New York's Gershwin Theater.
