COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG,
VIRGINIA —
By: Michelle, 11, PA (aka purplewallaby09)
Think
of a place where you can dress up as a colonial
child, see real houses from the 1800’s, and even do
some activities from colonial time! Yes, this place
exists and it’s called Colonial Williamsburg,
Virginia. In Williamsburg, you can go in old houses,
stores, and even attended a trial and get to be the
jury! While in Williamsburg, one thing that you
CANNOT miss is the ghost tour. For this special
tour, you go around with a guide at night, in the
dark, and hear ghost stories from the 1800’s. The
guide takes you around to different historical
houses where you hear ghost stories told by
different people, each person fitting the story
they’re telling very well. Most stories are told
only by candle light. In the beginning, the guide
tells you that 2 out of the three stories are true,
but doesn’t tell you which ones...
Another thing to do in Williamsburg is the full
house tour. You go in houses where people are doing
things like wig making and dress making. You also
get to see what blacksmiths, doctors, shop owners,
and many more people would do back then. For
example, you would get to see a wig maker weaving
every hair into the wig, or what would be in old
food stores and corner stores!
A final thing you can’t miss in Williamsburg is
dressing up as a colonial child. There are tents all
around that you can go in to rent a dress and bonnet
that you can walk around in all around Williamsburg.
It makes you really appreciate how comfortable and
easy our clothes really are!
If you are planning on going on a vacation any
time soon, I strongly suggest Colonial Williamsburg,
Virginia because it is educational and fun at the
same time! |
