TIP OF THE CONTINENT: SOUTH AFRICA
SOUTH AFRICA-EASTERN CAPE-EAST LONDON-GONUBIE
By: sasha, 11, South Africa (AKA guess)

Gonubie is a small town just off East London, its
beach has natural white/yellow sand with beach
plants, trees and awesome surf spots. Gonubie is one
of the best surf spots besides J-Bay. We have a
beach coffee shop and a surf shack and a lifeguard
house. The bathrooms have just been revamped.
Gonubie is a BLUE FLAG beach, a blue flag beach
means that your beach is one of the best. Gonubie is
the best beach for anything including surfing,
boogie boarding, body boarding, windsurfing,
picnics, swimming etc. Gonubie beach is a place
where you can do just about anything, it is a
relaxing environment. Of every beach in South Africa
I would not change it for one of them.
I LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA
By: Jessica, 10, South Africa (AKA Wisteria)

I am not from U.S.A. I’m from South Africa. I live
in the city of Cape Town. My name is Jessica. The
weather is really weird in Spring. First it is
striking hot in the afternoon but toward the evening
it starts getting cold. I do not know what it is
like in U.S.A as I’ve never been there. We have a
very big landmark, called "Table Mountain". We call
South Africa a "Rainbow Nation" because we have
people of many races born here. There are 11
national languages in South Africa, such as English,
Afrikaans and Xhosa. There are lots of traditional
food, such as mealies and Pap and Wors (Corn and
cornmeal & sausages) and we also have lots of
traditional stories. So if you are stuck on where to
go for vacation, then come to South Africa. It may
be a bit far but it’s totally worth it!!
SOUTH AFRICA

I One of the best places you should consider
visiting in the world is South Africa. I only went
there for two weeks, so I didn’t visit every single
thing, so I suggest you go there for at least a
month.
The first place you should visit is Johannesburg.
The airport there is amazing and if you look out the
plane window, you see all these little houses lined
up together, all red and orange. Johannesburg is
called "The City of Gold" because you can buy gold
and you can visit Nelson Mandela Square which offers
lots of shops: toy shops, clothes shops (DUH!) and
food shops.
Then you should go to Pretoria which is the
administrative capital of South Africa. It’s really
cool there, because it has one of the second largest
malls in South Africa and our hotel hostess said you
could get lost there (sadly we didn’t) and they have
millions of shops. If you’re a bookworm like me you
should ask for Exclusive Book, it’s got the best
books in the world.
We went to Cape Town for a week after that and I
think that Cape Town is the best place in South
Africa. You should go in your winter breaks, because
South Africa’s weather is reversed from the US’s.
Cape Town is really beautiful anyway, and it’s got
this wonderful little mall near the V&A waterfront
and you can see the bridge over the Atlantic Ocean
go up if ships go by just like London!
Cape Town also has the biggest mall in the world
which is called Century City, which is situated near
a theme park called Rutunga Junctions. The mall
looks really cool too, like a congress, and if you
go inside it’s all colorful with a big golden M, for
McDonalds. It’s got four hundred shops and you won’t
get sick shopping there.
Sadly we never went to Robbin Island, which has got
the prison in which former SA president Nelson
Mandela and you can see it. You go there in a boat
but it was raining when we went there so no such
luck.
If you go to South Africa you HAVE to visit Kruger
National Park! If you don’t your whole trip will be
worthless, cause I enjoyed it sooooooooo much! |
