NEW ENGLAND'S MAGIC
NEW ENGLAND'S MAGIC
By: Vivian, 11, NJ (AKA viviychang)

New England is like walking into a watercolor
painting, mountains surrounding you on all sides.
New England is located in New Hampshire. Bring good
sneakers and a warm jacket. Leaves of rainbow colors
bathe the mountain with a calm feeling leaving you
flabbergasted. Can there be anything more beautiful
in the world?
Go down Rt. 93, mountains on both sides of you, and
stop by the Flume. The trail leads you to an amazing
waterfall. While you’re walking along the river it
feels like any wrong step and you’re doomed. But in
the end it’s all worth it.
Go to Echo Lake. While I was there, my dad tried to
teach me how to skip a stone. I happen to have bad
eye-hand coordination so couldn’t do it. Then stop
by the Cannon Aerial Tramway, go up, and take a
hiking trail leading to astounding sites as far as
you can see. In the winter, ski down the slopes.
Take one of the railways up Mt. Washington, the
highest point in the mountain range, where even in
the summer you can catch a glimpse of snow. Drive on
the Kancanmagus highway and stop take a look at the
different stops on the way. I recommend Sabbaday
Falls. After walking a while it reveals three
waterfalls one after the other.
New England is so amazing words can’t describe it.
It’s almost too good to be true. There is really
nothing like it.
CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS

Last summer I went on a great vacation with my
family! We went to Cape Cod! It was a family reunion
type thing. We stayed in this huge house that you
can rent out for a week. There are a lot of those
kinds of houses. Everyday we were either at the
beach or just hanging out. There was a very cute
little town nearby that we could ride our bikes too.
It was called Woods Hole. You could go to an
aquarium. You can touch some of the creatures! There
are also seals outside. There is also a really good
candy store. And a lighthouse that you can go inside
at certain times. But the best thing was just
hanging out all day back at the house. You could
read, chat, swim or fish anytime you wanted to! That
was the best part! Another thing you could do is
take a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard. While you are
there you can rent mopeds and take a tour of the
island. There is a little village of gingerbread
houses. (Not real gingerbread!) There are a lot of
little shops that you can go shopping in. They have
a lot of cute things. I would definitely recommend
Cape Cod for a family vacation.
LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS

If you are looking for a fun vacation you should
definitely go to Lowell, Massachusetts! You can go
shopping down town, take a tour of the Boott Cotton
Mills, take a ride on a old fashion trolley to an
outdoor concert, take a tour of the canals or grab a
bite to eat at a diner or any of the quaint little
cafes.
Lowell is also a city filled with musicians and
artists. Once a year at the end of July they have
the Lowell Folk Festival, a two day festival. It is
a wonderful time filled with music, food, and games
from many different cultures from around the world!
In January the whole town of Lowell celebrates
winter, with that winter fest. It is a great time to
hang out with friends, eat good food, watch dog sled
races, and hear music! There are lots of different
contests any one can enter, Such as snowman
building, snowball wars, raffles, and even ice cream
and pie eating contests. And if you are like me and
love freebies you will love all the food samples. Oh
and if you get cold you can always pick up a Lowell
Winter Fest tee shirt!
So if you like shopping, history, music, art,
culture, food, or just plain fun, Lowell
Massachusetts is the place for you! |
