LIVING OVERSEAS

This week on BEEN THERE, 11-year-old Jenna, who lives in Austria, tells us what it is like to live overseas (from the USA)...

world traveling
I have lived overseas my entire life. I was born in Rosenheim, Germany. After that we moved to Belgrade, Serbia. My mom, dad, brother, and I were evacuated to Budapest, Hungary, and from there we moved to Zagreb, Croatia. Now we are in Vienna, Austria. We live here because my dad works at the embassy. I am in 6th grade, and my brother is in 2nd. We go to an American International School, so we speak English. But I have to take German for 75 minutes every other day.

We do a lot of the same stuff that kids do in the US. We IM, go shopping, go online, play sports, and we listen to the same music and watch the same videos. The only different things are that things cost a bit more because we use the Euro and all the signs are in German and that is what you use when you are out.

My family goes back to the US every summer to see my grandparents and all of our friends there, because my parents used to live there. We go to Pennsylvania and Florida, so I know what it is like in US. The only problem is, I am only there during vacation, so I don't know what it is like to go to school there.

Auf Wiedersehen!

– Jenna, 11, Austria (aka Zemmie)
