KENTUCKY SIGHTS
By: Chelsea, 15, KY (aka clamp_fan9116)

It’s really annoying sometimes, because people have given Kentucky a bad reputation. Mostly for saying that the people here are dumb, and that they don’t wear shoes. I moved here about three years ago, and after living here I don’t understand what gave everyone the wrong idea about this place. It is wonderful! People here are smart, and they wear shoes.

Kentucky is big for its cave systems. As a matter of fact, it has the world’s longest cave system – Mammoth Cave. It is a very large and beautiful cave. It has many species of insects, and small rodents. It has wonderful scenes, and as you hike through the cave you look down or up, you are absolutely amazed at how huge it is.

Close to Mammoth Cave is Cave City, where you’ll never get bored. They have many things to see, and one of the coolest things there is called Dinosaur World. They have a ton of life-size dinosaurs. They have many activities for you to do. When you go there, you’re most likely to learn at least three names of different dinosaurs.

Another cool place is called, "Kentucky Down Under". This place is a cool place to learn about different species of animals and insects from places such as New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania (Where do you think Taz is from?). It like a zoo, with a ton of hands-on things for you to do.

Then I’ll take you to Bowling Green, where there is a fairly good sized mall, and some really good shopping. Then there are the Great Escape movie theaters. These are the best movie theaters in Western Kentucky. They have large arcade rooms, something to do after your movie, or before. Also in Bowling Green is Western Kentucky University. They have sports going on and there mascot is a very adorable red blob named Big Red.

Now I shall take you to Falls of Rough, KY, where I live. What is of interest here? Rough River, where you can relax, play, golf, swim, look at some sights. One of the cool sights here is the dam. It is a small one, but it works, because it helps keep the river under control. Rough River is part of the Green River system. The Green River is part of the Mammoth Cave system. The river helped create the huge cave system. Falls of Rough also has a wonderful bed and breakfast called Green Farm. This a really good place to stay the night, or a place to stay for a few days. It has huge rooms, and the beds are really comfortable! Another plus? For all you who are interested in the supernatural, this place has a spirit. I’m saying this ‘cause something is moving the pictures, and books there.

The next place I’m taking you is Lexington. Boom…and they’re off!!! Yup, this is where the famous derby is. I’ve never been, but I do know some people walk away with a lot of money. You know, betting on which horse will win.

Next, and last is Louisville. Ever heard of the Cardinals? This is where the school is. University of Louisville is considered by some people the best place for sports. If you like plays, the theater here puts on some awesome plays. And during Christmas time, they put on the Nutcracker. Also, probably the coolest place to go is Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. It isn’t as good as Atlanta’s Six Flags, but you still are in for a good time.

I hope that I’ve opened many eyes about Kentucky. It is an awesome place. There is so much more, but you should discover that for yourself.
