HONG KONG By: Kaylin, 14, (aka wildvani21)
Hey - for all you girls who love big cities and
shopping…Hong Kong, China is the place to go. No
matter where you go there is no place that’s
anything like Hong Kong.
There are a ton of malls in Hong Kong. Some of them
are as tall as 16-17 stories high! Others though are
right out on the street. You can go up an alley and
barter with the Hong Kong natives who come every day
to sell everything from jewelry to cars to board
games.
Everywhere you go in Hong Kong, there are tall
buildings. The alleys are often between two 60-70
story buildings! The housing apartments are all
around 60 stories tall too. If you live at the top
of one of those, you’d better hope you don’t get
motion sick because you can actually feel the
building swaying underneath you. Housing
Developments can have around 20-30 buildings in
them. Each building is about 60 stories high and
each story has 4-5 separate apartments in it.
Another thing about Hong Kong that is very different
is their food. While you can get things like
McDonalds and Burger King, you also can have
restaurants where you can have what’s call Dim sum.
That kind of food consists of things like shrimp
wraps and steamed pork balls and shrimp pasta just
to name a few.
The food leads me to something else. The exchange
rate for money over there is eight Hong Kong dollars
for one American dollar approximately. A kid’s meal
at McDonalds costs about 40 dollars because of that.
That’s only 5 dollars American! The American Dollar
is worth a lot over there.
The only downside to a vacation in Hong Kong is that
there’s a plane flight of approximately 17-18 hours
over there. It’s a very long flight to get there but
it’s definitely worth it once you get there. You
should try it some time!
