Any Time You Need A Friend
By: Marissa D., 11, NY (aka ixoxorbit)

About the Author: I'm Marissa. I'm a sixth grade student. I have a younger sister, Jessica, two guinea pigs, Fudgie and Snowflake, and a dog named Orbit. I love all animals! I enjoy ice skating, writing, playing violin and piano, art, acting, and especially singing. I write my own songs and sing them. I've sang in several plays, and I have been selected to sing in an all-county chorus for two years in a row. I'm also an advanced violin player in Chamber Orchestra. I hope one day to share my love of music and writing with the world.

My Favorite Book of All Time Is…. The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo.

I like to write because… I enjoy writing because I love to be creative, and writing expresses my creativity.

What I'd look like
if I were a Miss O Girl...
The day after she moved to New York, Mandy went to school, as usual, but it was a different school, with different people, and nobody to talk to. During lunch, nobody even sat next to her. People laughed at her and called her names, like "Newbie" and "Loser." Mandy ran home crying. She ran up the steps into her room and slammed the door. Just then, she heard a knock on the door. "Come in," she murmured, trying to catch her breath under her tears.

"Are you okay, honey?" asked her mom. "You seemed very upset when you came into the house."

"I had a horrible day at school today. Everyone laughed at me, and it didn't make me feel very good. I didn't know anyone, to top it all off! I miss home! I miss my friends! I miss California!"
