About the Author: Rita was born in Bangkok, Thailand. Her family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1996. She lived in Ann Arbor until 2005, then, in Henderson, Nevada. Last Christmas, 2005, her family moved to Bangkok, Thailand. Rita was awarded for being an Extra Mile and straight A student as well as being an Outstanding Citizen. Rita has also been awarded several reading and writing awards. Her favorite sports are ice-skating and soccer.
My Favorite Book of All Time Is…. The Will of the Empress by Tamora Pierce
I like to write because… Ever since she was in the third grade, Rita has loved writing. She enjoys being able to create new ideas and new worlds using words. Writing is the greatest form of expression in her eyes.
Excerpt from her story...
Half an hour had passed when the teacher finally announced, "Put your pencils away, class. Time to share your essays. Would you like to go first, Juliette?" I nodded in reply. I had spent a lot of time rewriting my essay to convey my new message. It had become a masterpiece and I was really proud of it.
I got up to the front of the room and smirked at Carla, who glared back. "My essay is actually more of an article," I began. "I tried to convince the target audience that being smart doesn't necessarily mean you are a geek." I glanced at Carla and almost grinned at the angry look on her face.
