WINTER HERB GARDEN FOR GREENIES
Hey
Greenies! So as the winter marches on and we start
daydreaming about spring, what better way to enjoy
the feeling of renewal by starting an indoor herb
garden?
Here is what you need to get started:
- A few empty and clean plastic yogurt cups
- An old Tupperware lid or other saucer to
catch excess water
- A seed packet, or baby herb plant
- Indoor potting soil
- A sunny windowsill
- Water
Now,
to get started firstly you need to decide which
herbs to grow! A good idea is to ask mom or dad
which herbs they would use the most for cooking, so
you can get the most use out of your garden. These
are the best herbs for growing indoors:
- Basil
- Coriander
- Chives
- Parsley
- Sage
Next,
once you have picked your herbs, very carefully poke
a few holes in the bottom of the yogurt cups for
drainage. Ask mom or dad for help with this, as you
may have to use a knife or other sharp object. Then,
place your yogurt cup on top of your saucer and fill
¾ of the way up with your potting soil. Place baby
herb plants or herb seeds slightly below the surface
of the soil, make sure to cover any roots on the
baby herb plants completely. Next, water your herb
garden until the soil is moist to the touch and
place in the sunlight!
Over the next few weeks, enjoy caring for your
plants by watering them whenever the soil feels dry
and making sure they have enough sunlight! In a few
weeks you will have an herb garden that you can
share with your whole family! |
