BE A GREENIE: SHOPPING GREEN
By: Genevieve Ticlo

Okay, so we all know girls love to shop, am I right? Well, believe it or not, there are definitely things you can do to help “greenify” your shopping habits in the future! Read on to find out how.

  1. Buy vintage! – Shopping garage sales and secondhand stores is a great way to start going green! Plus, it’s a lot of fun! Not only does shopping vintage save you money, but it also saves the environment from unnecessary waste. Trust me, you can find a lot of cute stuff at secondhand shops and vintage boutiques, and the search is half the fun!

  2. Bulk up! – When you use something a lot and often, try to buy in bulk. This eliminates unnecessary packaging and can reduce the use of material we eventually end up throwing away anyway.

  3. Be organic! – Try buying recycled products, like papers and notebooks made from recycled materials and plant parts. Not only do they make you feel great, but they’re functional, too!

  4. Reuse! – Avoid buying single-use products, like plastic cups, paper plates, and disposable cameras. Buying products that last will help stop hundreds of tons of wasteful material from ending up in landfills.

  5. Get creative! – If you’re feeling risky, try giving up shopping all together when it’s not necessary. Think about this: every year, thousands of Americans buy products they don’t need, and each of these products has an almost definite chance of ending up as harmful waste. Instead of buying something, like a gift or new outfit, try mixing it up and using what you already have! It’s fun and totally green!
