ORGANICS AND GREENIES
So,
one of the important aspects of being a greenie is
making sure that you eat organic produce whenever
possible. Organic fruits and veggies are grown
without the use of chemicals such as pesticides and
herbicides. “Well that’s why we always wash our
fruits and vegetables before we eat them”, you might
be thinking. Well greenies do I have an experiment
for you.
Materials Needed:
1 glass cup
some tap water
1 container of blue food coloring
1 stick of celery
In
the kitchen, take a glass and fill it half way up
with water. Next, add a few drops of blue food
coloring, and place the stick of celery, the cut end
down, in the glass.
Over the course of the next few days, watch your
experiment carefully and you’ll see how the stick of
celery actually absorbs the blue food coloring, much
in the same way fruits and veggies will absorb the
pesticides and herbicides that are used in
non-organic produce.
Now
non-organic fruits and veggies aren’t going to make
you sick but its been proven that organic produce is
healthier for you, especially young growing
greenies!
