COMMUNITY SERVICE 411
By: Kaylee, 13, (aka miss renee)

Lets talk about helping out. Most people SAY they
want to help out in their community, but NEVER do.
And it’s understandable. It’s hard to find things to
do. When you look online, you might not be able to
find something simple, not too time-consuming, and
near you.
At some junior high schools and high schools,
they offer an NJHS club. This is a wonderful place
to start if you’re trying to start helping out your
community. NJHS stands for National Junior Honors
Society. It’s for students who get good grades, are
a good influence on other school students, and want
to do some community service. In this club, they
give you some different community service ideas that
are in your area, and you try to collect as many
community service hours as you can.
One way to help out is helping out at a library.
It may not sound like it makes a difference, but
libraries don’t make much money, so it’s a huge help
to have someone helping for free. And it’s really
fun because you get to see different good and
interesting books that you can check out later! All
you do is go to a library near you and ask them
about coming in sometime to help out. The people at
the check-out counter can help you.
ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION!!!!!! Schools often offer
different ways to help out at your school, and this
can be a big help for teachers and staff. You can
also talk to your school librarian who can find time
for you to help out a book fairs or other events.
Now you have plenty of ideas to help you get up,
and help out your community! It not only helps out,
but also makes you feel better about yourself. : - ) |
