“Be a Greenie Weekly”
Blog entry #1
Welcome and thanks for
visiting ‘Be a Greenie Weekly’! This blog is a place
where kids who love being green a.k.a. GREENIES can
come to learn, comment & talk about the ways that
you are green in your everyday life, at school, or
within your community!
So September has come again and we all know what
that means… back to school. Totally exciting. A new
year, new clothes, new classes, new books, new kids
and hey, maybe even some new friends. With so much
new stuff going on these days, why not try something
else that’s new?
Have you heard of GREEN? No, not the color or the
dollar bills, but actually being green aka being a
greenie. Being green is a new phenomenon sweeping
the country and the world, and the whole concept is
really pretty simple. Being green is being conscious
of the effect that our actions and the choices we
make in everyday life have on our environment and
communities. Make sense? Being green is doing things
like recycling, using less electricity, turning off
the water when you’re brushing your teeth, riding
your bike to your friend’s house, donating old
clothes, ANYTHING you can do to reduce the amount of
waste YOU generate.
Does it sound simple? That’s because it is! Being
green is understanding that our earth can’t endure
an endless onslaught of garbage and waste, and then
DOING something about it.
Have you been green lately? Write in, comment on
the blog, and send us ideas of what kind of articles
you would like to see every week. At times we are
going to have chances to write in and earn ‘greenie
points’ for telling us about the ways you show your
greenieness. Stay tuned!
