Twenty one year old Nina Dobrev is seen weekly in
the flashy dual role of girl next door Elena and
sultry vampire Katherine on the CW’s runaway hit,
‘The Vampire Diaries’. Known for her long straight
hair and intense brown eyes, this former gymnast has
made her career portraying typical teen girls in
extraordinary circumstances – hot vampire
boyfriends, anyone? Get to know Nina Dobrev, the
Bulgarian born beauty starring in the show many fans

Childhood
Nina Dobrev was born on January 9th 1989 in Sofia,
Bulgaria and moved to Canada as a young child. Her
mom is an artist and her dad is a computer
specialist. Nina explains, “I'm in Canada, but I'm
from Bulgaria originally, which is a Communist
country. I moved when I was two years old. My
parents literally started out with nothing. I just
went to school, and started dancing and doing that
kind of stuff just for fun.”
In school, Nina made a name for herself in dancing
and gymnastics and didn’t discover acting until she
was in her late teens. “I started in the business
quite late compared to all my other friends. I was
sixteen or seventeen and at first I went to
performing arts high school in Toronto. I was always
dancing and doing gymnastics and performing in
different ways but it wasn’t acting until I got an
agent and started auditioning for movies and TV
shows. It went from there and it turned into where
and what I am now.”
After high school, natural beauty Nina began
modeling and acting professionally. She acted in
commercials and earned small roles in movies like
‘The American Mall’, ‘Never Cry Werewolf’ and
‘Fugitive Pieces’. Nina’s first major role was that
of teen mom Mia in the cult TV favorite, ‘Degrassi:
The Next Generation’.
