INTERVIEW: Matt Dallas

Matt Dallas, the cutie pie from ABC Family’s hot show, “Kyle XY,” talked to Miss O’s friends at Teenmag. Here’s what the former model from Phoenix had to say…

Matt Dallas

Teenmag: What's your show Kyle XY about?
Matt Dallas: Kyle X/Y, it’s about this mysterious boy we find in the woods and he actually looks like he's a teenager but he acts as if he is a newborn – he experiences everything for the first time: eating, speaking, everything. He wanders into the city and he gets sent to this institution. He obviously doesn't belong there. So, this woman who works with autistic children takes him in to her family, to live with her and her family. And it's just kind of about him learning to function in society and what it's about and as the show goes on, we start to learn all these crazy things about him.

Teenmag: Is it hard for you to watch yourself on TV?
M.D.: It was in the beginning, now not so much. This time it was especially different. It was so different than anything I had done so it was kind of interesting to watch myself. I know a lot of people say they hate watching themselves, but I don't mind it. It's learning for me.

Teenmag: Do you ever notice things about yourself on screen? Like, gosh, I wish I would stop doing that. Is there anything that you would pick up on that other people wouldn't?
M.D.: Of course. I have lots of bad habits, well, not lots but I tend to really scrunch my forehead a lot, and even photographers and directors are always like "Relax your forehead! Relax your forehead" And then I see it and I'm like, "Oh that's why." There are little things that your like, "That's a weird habit," that no one else notices except for me.

Teenmag: When did you know that you wanted to be an actor?
M.D.: Actually, my whole family is into sports and we all played sports. I did too when I was younger, but it was something that I really just, I wasn't bad at it, I was just never really that interested. And when I was 12, there was this theater group that came to town and my grandmother read about it in the newspaper and decided to take me down there. And since that day that I auditioned for that play, I was like this is it. This is what I am going to do for the rest of my life and I just knew it.

Teenmag: Wow, do you remember which play it was?
M.D.Yeah, it was "The Ugly Duckling" and I got cast as the gander. I wore a big costume with feathers all over it. It was funny.”

Teenmag: Would’ve loved to have seen that!
