FOOTBALL FAN-A-TIC! A REPORT FROM A GIRL WHO LOOOVES HER TEAM
By: Grace, 12, PA (aka Coolkid1)

You may or may not care about the Super Bowl, or football at all, but Club member Coolkid1 is very passionate about her team! Unfortunately, they didn’t make the playoffs this year, but she’s a fan nonetheless…

I’m going to start of this story by telling you that I love the Pittsburgh Pirates, I love the Pittsburg Panthers, but nothing comes close to how much I adore the Pittsburg Steelers. Nothing. I’m sure you won’t find many girls who love their football team as much as I do. No one understands why I love the Steelers as much as I do because they don’t know my family. I’m not going to tell you that the reason I love the Steelers is because my grandfather played on the team, or my parents were friends with famous players like Jerome Bettis because that would be a lie. I will tell you one thing though; I come from a long line of Steelers fans. Since my dad grew up in Pittsburgh he was not immune to the Steelers. In fact he was quite the opposite; he was in love with them. He stayed up as late as he could every night the Steelers were on and had a warm feeling when he rested his head down at night and new they would win.

Now lets fast-forward 27 years to the day I was born, May 18, 1994. Since I’m a girl not a boy I didn’t get the cool gear my older brother got. With that said it wasn’t until I was in 4th grade when my I put on my Steelers cap. From then on my family and I would watch the games at restaurants, bars, and even outside! When I got into 5th grade it all changed. Instead of keeping my Steelers comments too myself, I spread them faster then poison ivy. Other kids in my class were the same way about there teams and every time the Steelers lost, I would get tortured at school by the other kids. Every time the Steelers won, I would torture them. It got even harder when the Steelers lost in the playoffs that year (2005). After a few months of sadness I got over it and was ready for the new season. I had no idea this would be the season the Steelers would get one for the thumb.

It didn’t start out like any other regular season for the Steelers. They had gotten a new quarterback Ben Rothlesburger, (Big Ben), and last year had been his rookie year leading the Steelers to the Playoffs then Losing in the 3 round. I was as everyone else expecting a good year- easily making the playoffs for sure with no more then three losses. That’s not what happened. Instead the Steelers took a different path, the wrong path, but not for long. The Steelers were the last seed in the playoffs with 9 wins and 6 losses. It was the famous Jerome Bettise’s last year so we really needed to win that year for a beloved player. My team did just that with making history; for the first time in NFL history, the last seed in the playoffs won the Super Bowl. It was a blessing to see such an easy win in the Super Bowl in also many years. The score wasn’t even close.

Now though I must forget about that marvelous win because that was last year. It doesn’t affect us now except that we’re Super Bowl defending champs. That’s what the newspaper says but I like to think of it like were equal to all the other teams. Everyone is going in to the same equality, and coming out differently. I can only hope and pray that the Steelers come out with another victory in the Super Bowl. Even if they don’t though, remember these two words, "Go STEELERS!!"
