CREATE A KID'S COUNSEL
By: Jenny, 11, VA (aka Sharpaymissy)

Sometimes, it seems like everyone just rushes to you for help. If they have a problem with school, with their friends, whatever, it all goes to you. Some days the stress just gets too much and you feel like you've been helping way too much. And it's not hard to stop that. All you need to do is Create Your Own Kid's Counsel!

You will need:

  1. A cardboard (to make your sign, e.g. Kelly's Help Center e.t.c)

  2. Markers (to design the poster)

  3.  Lots of paper (you don't need glossy, full color posters or anything, make your advertisements with plain paper)

  4. Friends or family to help you with your job!

First, you have to know what sort of help you want to offer. Maybe, you want to help kids your age and teach them how to organize their time. Or maybe you want to help kids face bullies at school. Once you've got this together, go to a website about all this stuff and look up how you can help kids solve the problems.

Once you've got that together, you have to know where you're gonna do all this. You could ask a teacher at school if you could use one of the rooms to create a club. Most likely, they'll be really encouraged by your plan and they'd help you out!

Then comes the hard part: making your poster. You want to make something that will make kids want to visit you and feel home-y, not shy when they come to you. Get together a collection of paints, crayons and markers to draw it. Glitter can really spice your sign up!

Lastly: Collect your co-workers. Maybe ask a few friends if they'd have the time to spare to help kids work out problems like that. Or ask a few family members (like your mom or sister or brothers) to also help you out.

Then...you've made your own Kid's Counsel and you're ready to be totally published! Put your posters up on lampposts and outside your house and hand out flyers at school to all your friends and classmates!

It's really cool once you've started because instead of just lounging around doing nothing, you can really help people!
