SHAPING UP

Ready to feel great about yourself? Are you itching to shake things up? Why not get up and out and move your body more? Here are some great ideas from our friends at teenmag.com.

The fastest route to fitness is figuring out what you enjoy doing and then just doing it.

Whether you're queen of the couch cushions or mistress of your mountain bike, we've got custom-tailored workouts that'll whet your workout appetite and whip you into shape.

COUCH POTATO

You, in a Nutshell:
After school, you make a beeline for the Doritos and the couch. As far as you're concerned, exercise is something other people do, but at the same time, you wouldn't mind adding a little muscle tone to your body.

Best Plan of Attack:
Something that's fun, doesn't have a steep learning curve and requires minimal effort to get into. The solution? Jumping rope. You already know how to do it, it's a lot of fun, ropes are cheap, and you can do it anywhere, anytime. In bad weather, fitness videos are also a good option for you, but fight the urge to bail and assume the Doritos position. Check out AMAZON.com's fitness collection.

Time Investment:
Do 50 jumps twice a week (that's a commercial break) and work your way up to four times a week.

Why It's Worth It:
On your days off, you'll burn more calories while snacking and lying on the couch thanks to your newly increased metabolism. Bon appétit!

FIT WANNABE

You, in a Nutshell:
You love being outdoors, and you tool around on your bike after school, but your fitness level seems to be on the slow track to nowhere. You can't remember the last time you really broke a sweat or saw an improved difference in your overall body tone.

Best Plan of Attack:
Stick with what you like doing, but set new goals. If you're into biking, skating or running, map out a route (you can have someone drive it and count the miles) that's longer than what you normally do. Time yourself and try to beat your last time each outing. Having a plan like this will push you to work harder, says fitness expert Edward Jackowski, CEO of Exude Fitness, New York City. Do it to increase your fitness capacity so you can push it to a new, rewarding level.

Time Investment:
Four times a week for 20 to 40 minutes.

Why It's Worth It:
You're still doing what you like, and now you've got a kick-butt and healthy body to show for it. Congratulations. You're no longer a wannabe.
