HOW TO START THE SCHOOL YEAR OFF RIGHT – PART 2

Every school year is a new opportunity – to make friends, to get good grades, to challenge yourself with something new. Read on as several Miss O Club members share their ideas on how to make the beginning of school a smooth ride!

Worried About Secondary School?
By: Shannon, 11 (aka girlie_girl)

Hey Girls,
I bet you girls are scared about starting secondary school or have just started secondary school like I have. My mom said, “There is nothing to be scared of,” when I started secondary school but I was petrified!

When I walked into the hall, all the children were looking at me and my friend. I felt like crying and running home but I just sat down and tried to look confident. These are most of us girls’ worries:

  • getting lost
  • not making any friends
  • getting bullied
  • getting told-off
  • Finding the bathroom

…and probably more. You won’t get lost all the time, but if you do, the teachers will understand because you are new.

You will make loads of friends but make sure you chose the right ones!
I’m not saying you won’t get bullied but if you do, go and tell a teacher or a mentor or stay away from them.

There will be loads of children to ask where the toilet is so don’t be scared.

Well I guess my mom was right there is nothing to be scared of because I have made loads of new friends. I haven’t got lost but if I did I would ask a pupil at the school! I haven’t been bullied yet either. If you have any problems ask your parents or ask for some advice on miss o and friends. So don’t be SCARED!

Middle School Mishaps: They’re Easy To Get Into, Hard To Get Out Of!
By: Sara, 11 (aka march31997)

If you’re going to middle school you probably think, "Cool! More time to spend with my friends!" As it turns out, people usually end up losing friends in Middle school. If you and your BFF are drifting apart, it’s not easy to come together again. It’ll take some work, but here are some tips to make it easier.

  1. Ask your friends to sit at your table at lunch.
  2. When an opportunity is given for a group project, try to get together with your friends!
  3.  DONT TALK ABOUT THEM BEHIND THEIR BACKS!
  4. And, most of all, just be a good friend. (Open the door, compliment, etc.)

How to Make Friends
By: lpurple1500

Have you ever felt like you have no friends, and tend to be alone? Well, I’m going to teach you the perfect way to make a friend.

  1. If you are new in school and don’t know anybody, observe others. Pick out the ones that seem caring, nice, loyal, honest, and would make good friends.
  2. When you see another peer alone or lonely, you should consider walking up, shoulders straight with a smile, and saying, "Hi, how are you? My name is _______, and do you want to go play a game with me?" This is the way most people met their best friends.
  3. If you see someone sad or hurt and are sitting alone, approach them and ask if they are okay, and offer to tell them funny stories to cheer them up or take them to the nurse (if they are hurt or ill). This is how I made my best friend!
  4. If there is a welcome committee at your school, you should ask them if anybody is willing to be friends with you. If you are NOT new to a school, you should go up to people who seem nice and ask them to play a game or help you with something.
I’m sure you will make a lot of good friends quickly with my tips. Good luck!

NOTE: Never, EVER, try to buy friends with fancy toys, games, or expensive food. Those people will use you, not become your friend.
