ENERGY BOOSTERS
by Nesima Aberra

The dog days of summer are quickly approaching. It’s hot and sticky and the laziness kicks in. Now is not the time to lie around, be a coach potato and float in your pool. Use these great snacks to boost your energy and help you spend your summer break to the max!

  • Yogurt with blueberries or granola
Pick your favorite yogurt flavor—plain, strawberry, then throw in some blueberries or granola pieces in a small bowl. This is a great homemade parfait that you can change up with different berries and fruits. It’s a great breakfast too.
    Boosters- Carbs and protein

  • Almonds
This is an easy, no-mess snack you can get in little baggies wherever you go. A handful is a recommended serving. Eat these crunchy nuts alone or on top of salads and pasta dishes.
    Boosters- Fiber, protein, unsaturated fat

  • Banana and peanut butter
One of the best sandwiches combinations ever, bananas and peanut butter can also be the healthy alternative to chips and dip. Cut the banana into little pieces and get 2 tablespoons of peanut butter in a small cup.
    Boosters- potassium, protein, Vitamin E

  • Watermelon slices
Watermelon is the summer fruit. There’s nothing like a juicy, fresh bite of watermelon to get you through all your crazy summer plans. It’s a low-calorie, naturally sweet snack you’ll love.
Boosters- Vitamin C, Vitamin A, lycopene, potassium

  • Pita chips and hummus
The Mediterranean diet has been lauded for being the most nutritious diet in the world. Here’s a little part of their secret to living well. Pita chips are the dried version of their pita bread. You can buy them in bags at any supermarket. Hummus is a delicious spread made from mashed chickpeas, garlic, lemon and tahini. The two together are like magic!
Boosters- iron, Vitamin C, protein, fiber
