Summer Hair Repair
Sun, sand and chemicals can strip hair of it's lustrous shine and softness. Use our tips to help protect hair from the harshness of summer and restore it to good condition.
Apply a Little SPF
Yes, you read right, we are suggesting you apply SPF to your hair. This can be done a couple of ways and each one has it's benefit. First of all applying your usual sunblock along your hairline and part can help you keep from burning that very sensitive strip of skin. Our second recommendation is to apply a product, like
PhytoPlage Protective Beach Spray, that helps protect hair from harmful UVB rays. The PhtyoPlage spray also helps to restore hair color and softness. You simply apply the spray to dry or wet hair during and before sun exposure and comb it through to let it work its magic.
Shampoo Sure Shots
After protecting hair from the sun with a little spritz you'll want to consider the shampoo and conditioner you're using. There are plenty of GREAT shampoos out there and some cost more than others, but
Clairol Herbal Essences is a great bargain choice that will give you the results you desire. They make a formula for every hair type but the
Break's Over line is probably the best for battling summer wreckage to hair. This particular line is designed to stop and prevent breakage as well as strengthen hair and all with the sweet scent of coconut and mango -- YUM!
Deep Conditioning for Deep Results
We don't recommend you use a deep conditioner more than once a week but with the right usage you'll notice an instant benefit to you hair. Pantene Pro-V Restorative Time Renewal Replenishing Mask is just the trick. You apply it once a week to hair and you'll notice immediate results in the softness and manageability of your hair. For best results you'll want to leave it on hair for a little while when you apply it, so we suggest doing something like
shaving your legs or applying a facial masque while you let it set.
All in the Technique
You'll want to limit your usage of additional styling products and especially heat stylers like hair dryers and curling irons during this fragile time for hair. Beachy waves are always a fun look to pull off and you won't need your hairdryer to get them. If you MUST use styling products try to start with a conditioning spray, to help add one more layer of defense for your hair. Also consider the styling tools you use. When hair is wet you should be using a wide-tooth comb to push through the knots, don't try a fine-tooth one you'll cause hair to break much to easily. Your brush should match your hair type,
Goody Styling Therapy hair brushes are great choices for just about everyone. The
Add Shine brush comes infused with jojoba oil to help smooth hair so it's soft and shiny.
Try not to brush your hair too much as this can actually cause of loss of natural oils and lead to breakage. Brushing should be done to keep hair looking neat and tidy not perfectly in place. Also pay attention to elastics you use for pony tails, some of them are really bad for hair. It's all about knowing what your hair can take in terms of styling to keep it healthy and keep you happy!
