STYLE FILE: OILY HAIR
Q: "I hate my oily hair! PLEASE tell me what to do."

A:
Just like you can have oily skin on your face, you can have oily skin on your scalp. But you'd be surprised to learn that oil is actually good for your hair because healthy oils allow the hair to glide through brushes without snagging and keep hair conditioned and shiny. Believe it or not, you actually shouldn't wash your hair every day if you have oily hair because it could stimulate your glands even more and make your hair oilier. When you do wash, try to use a gentle cleansing shampoo such as Suave Daily Shampoo for Normal to Oily Hair. Shampoos made for oily hair have a low ph balance and are gentle on your scalp. In between shampoos, try using a hair powder to get rid of excess oil. You can try a powder made for hair like Bumble & Bumble Hair Powder, a "dry shampoo" that you rub in to absorb excess oil or try regular Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder. Just shake on at the roots, rub with your fingers (think messing up your hair!), towel off with a dry towel and brush out. The oil will be absorbed and your hair will look clean and fresh. If you use conditioner, avoid applying it at the roots, and use it sparingly on the ends. You'll go from oil slick to gorgeous chick in no time!
