Flip Flop Feet
Flip flops are the standard of summer, but did you know how bad they are for your feet? They offer no support for feet and actually can cause problems for your skin and muscles. Read our tips on how to treat feet that have been hanging out in flip flops.
Flipping for Flops?
Before you opt to wear your flip flops all day every day, keep in mind that they offer no arch support, heel cushioning, or shock absorption and wearers can suffer foot pain due to lack of support, tendinitis, and even sprained ankles if they trip. And don't even think about wearing flip flops during outdoor sports or in areas where you might encounter widlife such as snakes. Your toes sticking out loosely will attract all sorts of trouble. Our main suggestion is to not wear flip flops when you can help it and to treat feet to special lotions and scrubs to keep your feet feeling refreshed and soft.
Magic Lotion Potions
Lathering feet in lotion is always a good idea but we recommend you take it one notch further and use a pair of socks with a deep conditioning lotion. Simply rub a special foot cream generously into your feet and then put on a pair of basic, clean socks. This routine works fabulously while you sleep and ensures the lotion seeps into your skin and softens rough spots. Pick a lotion with Peppermint Essential Oil in it to ensure your feet will feel cool, refreshed and fragranced. The peppermint smell also helps to fight foot odor.
Slough It Off
Using an exfoliator on your feet at least once a week will ensure you get rid of dead skin cells. You can use a specially formulated one for feet that will get rid of dead cells and help smooth calluses and other rough spots on your feet. Find a scrub with pumice in it to ensure super-smooth feet.
The Tool Box
If you find your feet have really taken a beating you might want to consider investing in some good pedicure tools. Of importance are the pumice stone, which helps smooth rough spots, a foot file for those really tough areas of skin that need extra exfoliating. You can also consider picking up one of those foot baths that come with water jets and other special features. They're kind of a pain to clean but they really do sooth and soften poor aching feet! Just think how fabulous your perfectly prepped toes will look at the beach now -- yes even in those dreaded flip flops!
