GET INTO
KNITTING
By: Nesima Aberra
If
you’re looking for the hottest hobby around, look no
further than your mom’s closet—it’s knitting! It’s
fun, easy and great around the wintertime. You can
learn how to make yourself a scarf, hat or even a
sweater. Start small and be patient, but you’ll be
knitting like a pro in no time. Until then, here are
some ways to help you get started.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Teen Knitter
This is a great magazine filled with knitting
patterns, plus stories, articles, and poems.
You’ll love reading and learning all at the same
time. You can download it for free at
http://www.lulu.com/content/875788.
- Not Another Teen Knitting Book
Learn all the hip, fun patterns to knit thanks
to Vickie Howell—host of the DIY Network’s
popular Knitty Gritty. When you get the book you
might start off as a “freshman” in knitting, but
keep working and you’ll make it to the
“varsity”level. This would also make a great
gift for beginning knitters.
- Knitting Kit
Learn how to knit with all supplies included.
The kit includes easy instructions for left or
right handed knitters with a needle pair, knit
tally, cable stitch needles, stitch holders,
tapestry yarn needles, 3/4" cabone rings, point
protectors and a knitting gauge. You can pick
this one up at Target or any craft store.
- Knitty Gritty TV
Sometimes it’s easier to watch someone when
you’re learning. Enter Knitty Gritty, a show
that gives fresh, fierce and fabulous ideas for
creative knitters of all skill levels. The host
Vickie Howell, as mentioned above, will help you
learn how to knit anything from iPod cozies to
ponchos to tank tops. Tune in to the DIY channel
or go to
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/shows_dkng to
watch clips and read instructions.
