REDO YOUR DRESSER!
— By: Angie, 13, NJ (aka moobak)
Redecorating your dresser or armoire is
fun, inexpensive, and easy. You’ll need
drawer pulls or knobs (you can get these
at home improvement stores) and your
choice of acrylic paint, stickers
(optional), paintbrushes, and Mod Podge
(from craft stores); or 3-inch squares
of fabric and rubber bands, fun hair
ties, or ribbons and beads. FYI, knobs
are the round ones and pulls are the
arched ones with two ends.
If
you are painting your knobs/pulls:
Step 1: Using your paintbrush, paint a
base coat on your knob/pull. Let that
dry, then paint another coat of the same
color over it. Let dry.
Step 2: If you want, you can use a
smaller paint brush to paint patterns
such as stripes, stars, zig-zags, and
polka dots on your pulls/knobs.
Step 3: You can also stick stickers on
the painted pulls/knobs. Make sure to
press them down so they stick to rounded
edges.
Step 4: Use a paintbrush to coat
knobs/pulls with Mod Podge. Let dry.
If you are using fabric:
Step 1: If you are using ribbons and
beads, cut an 8-inch length of ribbon
for each draw/pull. Knot one end of each
ribbon.
Step 2: String a few beads on that end,
then some beads on the other end. Make
sure you know the other end as well.
Step 3: For your knobs, place the center
of each knob in the center of a piece of
fabric. Wrap the fabric around the knob
and tie it with a rubber band, hair tie,
or ribbon.
Step 4: It might be more difficult to
wrap your pulls with fabric. However,
you can still tie a decorated ribbon to
the center of your pulls. You can even
tie the ribbon in a bow!
When you are done making the
pulls/knobs, ask a grown-up to take out
your old knobs and pulls and install the
new ones. Your grown-up will probably
need a screwdriver. And you’re done!
