A SPRING MAKEOVER FOR YOUR BEDROOM

NO-COST BEDROOM RE-DO
By: Maggie, 11, NJ (AKA MissM)

Are you tired of your bedroom arrangements? Here are a few simple tips for rearranging your bedroom furniture.

  1. Ask your parents first! They may not want you to move large pieces of furniture around, and besides, they can help lift the heavy stuff!
  2. Divide your room into sections. Some are writing, reading, sleeping, playing, and hanging out with friends.
  3. Make sure to keep everything in a good place where it's easy to use. For example, if you have a chair that you want to use for reading, keep it near your bookshelves and a light.
  4. Put the most-used items in easy-to-get-to places, such as in a bookcase. If you don't use it, you won't need it on-hand.
  5. Have fun! Remember: just because you're bored of your room, you don't have to buy a new bed! Just rearrange a few things, and Presto! Good as new.

HOW TO MAKE A TIE PILLOW
By: Jeana, 10, MN (AKA Monkeygirl87)

Hi I'm Jeana, and I'm going to show you how to make a tie pillow. Here's what you need. A pillow 12x12, some fleece fabric, scissors, and your hands. First you cut out squares from the fleece and make them as big as the pillow but leave a inch sticking out for the ties. Second you cut the fabric around all the edges like slits it doesn't matter how many you do. Third you tie knots on every tie across from each other. And now you have a COMFY PILLOW!

DIY PAPER BEADS
By: Anna, 12, WI (AKA authorkid)

This is sooo fun and it's a great way to recycle and pass time!

Materials:

  • glue
  • a round pencil
  • colorful newspaper advertisements

Instructions:

  1. Cut an advertisement into long, thin triangles. (TIP: the width of the triangle is how wide your bead will be.)
  2. Roll the triangle, starting with the wide end, tightly around the pencil.
  3. Put a SKINNY line of glue from the tip of the triangle to about 1 inch down.
  4. Hold the freshly glued strip tightly for about 30 seconds, then slide the bead off the pencil. Let dry.
  5. Repeat steps 1-5 for as many beads as you want.

These are super-cool looking! String your beads and hang them on your door/window or do whatever you want with them. Enjoy!
