DIY: HOW TO MAKE A COOL FELT IPOD CASE
By: Zoe, 12 (aka zobe910)
You
can make a case for any generation of your iPod or
iPod nano with your own zany flare. All you need is:
- Large sheet(s) of felt in your fave color(s)
(about the size of a sheet of paper should do)
- Little scraps of felt for decoration
(optional)
- Glue (if needed)
- Needle
- Thread/embroidery floss (which ever works
best for you)
- A button
Take your iPod and set it on a piece of felt. Mark
the edges around your iPod and cut that out. Do the
same for the back. You can do the same thing for the
sides as you did for the front and back, or you can
measure out the width and height of the sides and
mark them on the felt and cut them out. You might
also want to have the felt cut outs slightly larger
than the iPod’s real measurements. Now, you have to
sew together the felt using an overcast stitch. Make
sure you leave the top part open for the next step.
To keep the iPod from slipping out, take another
color of felt and cut it to the same size of the
iPod. Start sewing part of it to the back of the
case so it comes up and over the top of your iPod
like a flap. P.S. - don’t let the flap completely
cover the front of the case. That’s where you put
the fun stuff! Now, flip open the flap and sew the
button to the case just so that the flap covers it
when pulled over. When you are done, make a hole in
the felt of the flap where it covers the button.
Careful not to make the hole too big or the button
will slip out of it! Now, it’s your time to express
your creative ability! Take the felt scraps and cut
it into shapes like princess crowns, butterflies,
flowers, hearts, or you can even spell your name
out. You can glue these to the case or sew them,
it’s up to you! Now that case is just as fabulous as
you are!
For iPod nano: To listen to your iPod in your case,
slip the iPod in, find where the ear phone hole
should be, mark it, and poke a hole onto the felt.
(You should take the iPod out before you poke the
hole, duh!) Hint: it will be easier to put the head
phone jack in if you gradually make the hole larger.
