Marion Swanson, PhD
Elementary School Psychologist, Board Advisor

Dr. Swanson, a practicing school psychologist, brings extensive psychological consultation experience regarding supports and strategies that improve healthy social-emotional functioning. She has developed and implemented a range of social skills curricula and interventions to meet the needs of diverse groups of children and adolescents, and is currently designing multi-level character education programming for school-based settings. Dr. Swanson is devoted to the pursuit of enhancing children's social-emotional competence through varied and far-reaching initiatives. This focus stems from a considerable body of existing research suggesting that a child's social-emotional competence is more predictive of long-term success and mental health into adulthood than academic performance or IQ scores. Furthermore, improvements in those skills that allow a child to effectively cope with their emotions, solve their problems, and navigate through their social world, translate into increasing cognitive skills and mental flexibility that positively impact academic performance as well.

In addition to her expertise in the field of school psychology, Marion's sales and marketing background includes management and corporate trainer positions within the telecommunications, retail, and direct marketing/catalogue industries.

Marion received her Psy.D. in School Psychology at the University at Albany (NY) and her B.A. in French Studies at Nazareth College of Rochester (NY). She has also studied abroad in both Brussels, Belgium and Rennes, France.
